Randy Ingram (pianist/composer) has been hailed as “gifted” (Jazz Times) and “a formidable composer” (The San Francisco Chronicle). “A pianist drawn to contemporary harmony and a sleek rhythmic sensibility… Astute, self-possessed” (The New York Times). Ingram has released four acclaimed recordings for Sunnyside Records in duo, trio, and quartet formats, including his latest release, Play Favorites, a perfectly matched duo collaboration with vocalist Aubrey Johnson, which showcases Ingram’s “Mastery of the 88’s” (The New York City Jazz Record). Ingram’s latest trio recording for Sunnyside Records, The Means of Response, is an intricate, virtuosic and powerful protest record, and a message of hope and solidarity for his young son. A collection of “exquisitely performed pieces, all composed by Ingram”, (Jazz Times), The Means of Response features his trio of bassist Drew Gress and drummer Jochen Rueckert, two of jazz’s most esteemed veteran sidemen. Originally from California, Ingram attended the New England Conservatory of Music before moving to Brooklyn, NY in 2003, where he has become an indispensable part of New York’s thriving jazz community. He has played with leading musicians including John Patitucci, Jeff Tain Watts, Billy Hart, Ari Hoenig, Tierney Sutton, Ingrid Jensen, Joe LaBarbera, Kendrick Scott, Lage Lund and the late Billy Higgins. He is a member of the Jimmy Chamberlin Complex, the jazz project led by the drummer of the Smashing Pumpkins, and is featured on their releases The Parable and Honor (Make Records). In Sweden’s highest-grossing film of 2013, Waltz for Monica (Monica Z), a biopic about the Scandinavian jazz singer Monica Zetterlund, Ingram made his acting debut, performing as one of his heroes, pianist Bill Evans. No stranger to Ireland, Ingram’s trio performed at last year’s Derry and Bray Jazz Festivals, and for this performance he will again collaborate with the heavyweight Irish rhythm section of bassist Dave Redmond and drummer Kevin Brady.
