Cork Is The Best Place to Catch The Atlantic Surf

The sun rises over Cork as early as 5 am in summertime. If you’re an early bird and fancy a surf with locals before they go to work in the city head to Garretstown beach. It is near Kinsale and is busy with surfers from cockcrow til dusk at 10 pm. You'll have plenty of opportunities to schedule a refreshing date with the Atlantic Sea.

If you’ve never experienced the rush of adrenaline to be had from surfing G-Town Surf School is a great place to start. Steve and his experienced staff will set you up with a board, wetsuit and the wisdom to get the most from your debut in the ocean. Surfing on the Wild Atlantic Way does come with a warning, however – it’s highly addictive!

In Ireland’s Ancient East, Swell Surf School , near Midleton, will teach you how to ride the waves at Inch Beach. Further west at stunning Incydoney beach , 15 minutes drive from Clonakilty, you can rent boards from Inchydoney Surf School .

The remote and beautiful Barleycove beach near Crookhaven also has surf camps for kids during the summer months. For post-surf nourishment Barleycove Hotel overlooking the beach has a delightful terrace where you can grab a delicious lunch or evening meal of locally caught seafood.

This is truly one of the most stunning places in Europe to refresh and reinvigorate all of your senses. Dive in!
