View all17 beautiful trails for walking, wheeling, and exploring woodlands throughout East Cork and around Cork Harbour
SECAD, working with community and voluntary groups in rural Cork, has released a new free guide highlighting 17 beautiful trails for walking, wheeling, and exploring woodlands throughout East Cork and around Cork Harbour.
The Keep Moving in Nature guide features well-known attractions such as
Fota House, Arboretum and Gardens, the Midleton–Youghal Greenway, forest walks
in Glenbower, Marlogue and Castlemartyr, as well as spectacular coastal routes
including the Ballycotton and Knockadoon Cliff Walks. Designed for all ages and
abilities, the guide encourages easy local adventures close to home.
Building on the success of SECAD’s 2023 interactive online version, this pocket-sized A5 edition is now available in tourist information offices, libraries across Cork, and online.
Funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development
through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, the project aims to meet
growing interest among residents and visitors for printed resources that
promote nature-based recreation and rural experiences.
Speaking at the launch, project co-ordinator and SECAD spokesperson Elga Ryan said:
“This is the ideal time of year to get outdoors. The guide gives people inspiration to try somewhere new with every outing, and it’s a fantastic free tool for visitors wanting to discover East Cork and Cork Harbour. Whether you’re a local seeking a weekend walk or welcoming friends and family to the area, the guide makes it easy to enjoy Cork’s natural beauty while supporting local tourism and healthy outdoor lifestyles.”
Local hotels and guesthouses have already welcomed the guide, noting that it encourages guests to extend their stay and explore more of the region.
Copies are free to collect from Cork tourist offices and
libraries, or a digital download can be accessed at www.ringofcork.ie/outdoor.
