What's On: Celebrate Halloween’s Ancient Origins in Cork

Published 18 October 2024

Halloween's origins are deeply rooted in Ireland, with traditions and customs that date back millennia to ancient Celtic practices. Originally known as the festival of Samhain, it marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, a time when the veil between this world and the next was at its thinnest.

In Cork, Halloween takes over the streets with fire, folklore, and festivity.  From haunting parades to larger-than-life creations, the county comes alive with colour, creativity, and Celtic magic. As darkness falls, Cork transforms into a place where myths stir, legends awaken, and the spirit of Samhain lingers in every corner.

Step into the magic this autumn and experience Halloween in Cork, a celebration like no other, where history, mystery, and fun collide!
