The Schull Regatta has its roots in Schull history and tradition. It all began in 1884 when sailing yawls raced each other between Schull and Crookhaven and around Schull harbour. The big attraction at the time being the fierce rivalry and epic battles between the local fleet of fishing yawls and the visitors from Baltimore, Sherkin, Cape Clear and Crookhaven.

Since the re-launch of the Schull Regatta in 2014, it has now become an annual event. Schull is in a very beautiful part of West Cork and is a charming village popular with visitors at the best of times, but for this weekend, it is thronged, and the place is humming, and the event is as legendary for its on-shore partying as for anything that takes place on the water.

The action-packed weekend includes a great range of activities including swimming races, crab fishing competitions, pig and pole, raft races, tug o’war, family fun day in the field overlooking the harbor. Traders will also be present which will include food from local food producers and gourmet produce. One of the many highlights includes the South West Coast Yawl Rowing Association Championships. Visitors also enjoy a fancy-dress parade in the company of the Ballingeary Pipers who march through the main street and the event concludes with street entertainment followed by a show stopping fireworks display.
